IAS Srilakshmi Suspended

In a further humiliation to senior IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Obulapuram Mining case, the Kiran Kumar Reddy government on Thursday suspended her from service, pending the CBI inquiry.
As per the government rules, any official who happens to be in the custody or judicial remand for more than 48 hours, has to be suspended from the job till the inquiry is completed and he or she gets acquitted. One does not know how long this Obulapuram mining case will go on; and till such time, Srilakshmi would have to be out of job under suspension.
Though Srilakshmi might get half-pay all through her suspension period, the arrest and the CBI inquiry into her alleged irregularities, would be recorded in her service register and would continue to haunt her till her retirement. Not only that, it would severely hamper her image, credibility and also the promotion chances.
A bright officer that she is, Srilakshmi had all the chances of rising to the rank of Chief Secretary in her career. And all that is now spoiled because of one scam.
Srilakshmi applied for bail stating that she was suffering from heart ailments. She complained of sickness on Thursday morning and the doctors had conducted tests on her. May be she will get the bail on health grounds.
