Is it Reality or Violence?

Did you know each year more than a million people lose their lives to violence? These alarming figures paint a sad picture. Negative elements around us are being touted as the in thing and it is uncool to not live life on the edge. What can be a better example of how people’s mindsets are changing than the new reality TV shows on air? Be it Emotional Atyachar, Bigg Boss, Axe Ur Ex – all these shows have one thing in common, the violence. Violence does not mean a blow on someone’s head; it is a highly complicated term that encompasses a wide range of acts and emotions. Verbal spats are a common feature and each one does their best to outdo one another. The participants in these shows are seen busy planning and plotting to win the show.

Characters in these new form of TV shows are likely to be popular with the audience based on how violent one gets. It is no doubt negative publicity, but, the motto here is, ‘any publicity is good publicity’. Violence is seen as a form of entertainment and the biggest arguments in the show are promoted as teasers to lure viewers in.

Emotional Atyachar was a frontrunner and had been a much talked about show for its content and foul language. But, it has been dethroned big time by the latest sensation Bigg Boss. Season 5 of this show is considered to be the most explosive one so far with fights erupting on a daily basis. The show has surpassed everyone else and each episode aired has some controversial element to it. The reality TV genre reached an all-time low with the abuses being hurled around in the Bigg Boss house. Akashdeep Saigal, a participant in the show has sparked outrage among audiences with his indecent behaviour. Mehal Chahal has mostly been at the receiving end of his verbal attack. The show is completely dependent on the participants for TRPs and the participants are doing their bit by behaving badly, manipulating and lying.

We can often see these people talking about how someone is resorting to violence in order to gain public votes. Is the public in favour of violence and is it really a form of entertainment? The message that is being sent across to the young and impressionable audience is that bad behaviour and violence can make them eligible for reality shows and turn them into stars overnight.

Symonds to enter Bigg Boss house

Controversial Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds was on Tuesday unveiled as the latest contestant in the Indian television version of the hit reality show "Big Brother".
The 36-year-old big hitter, in and out of the national side due to disciplinary problems, will become the first international cricketer to enter the "Bigg Boss" house, the show's promoters said in an emailed statement.

Symonds, a household name in cricket-mad India through his involvement in the short-format Indian Premier League, said he saw the show as a challenge, although he admitted he had not seen any of the previous episodes.


"India has been good to me and I have been travelling to India for over 20 years... I am hoping to have a lot of fun inside the house and learn more about the Indian culture that I find very fascinating," he said.

"I am also looking at this as an opportunity to showcase the Australian culture which involves fun-filled activities like barbecues, throwing people into the pool and being completely at peace."

Symonds, dubbed the bad boy of Australian cricket for his drinking binges, was at the centre of a race row with India's Harbhajan Singh, whom he accused of calling him a "monkey" during the fractious second Test in Sydney in 2008.

The pair this year turned out for Mumbai Indians in the Twenty20 IPL and insist the much-publicised spat is behind them. Previous overseas celebrities on "Bigg Boss" include the former "Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson and Jade Goody, who shot to fame in the British version of the show and was on the India format when she found she had terminal cancer.

One controversial guest this year is a Canadian porn star Sunny Leone, who has starred in films like "Not Charlie's Angels XXX" and "The Virginity Hit".

The ISI grenade that named Veena

Pakistani model and actress VeenaMalik of Bigg Boss fame is in the news for a photograph of her posing nude. The alleged picture appeared on the Indian online edition of the international monthly men’s lifestyle magazine FHM.
The photo is sensuously provocative as the almost-nude Malik appeared with the letters “ISI” tattooed on her arm. The cover page of December issue of the magazine has her photo titled as, “Pakistani WMD Veena Malik shows you how to throw a grenade”. She has a toy grenade in her left hand.
“In India everything is referred to ISI (Pakistan’s spy agency Inter Services Intelligence)”, she told Pakistan’s Geo TV. “Even if a very small thing happens, they say ISI is behind it. Everybody blames ISI for everything.”
An arrow mark pointing to the ISI tattoo on her right hand says, ”hand in end of the world too?”.
Veena, however, is now claiming that the photograph had been morphed. She denied the photo shoot involved any nudity. Malik said the original idea had been Kabeer Sharma’s, editor of FHM’s Indian edition.
“He told me that (the tattoo) will be very bold and will cover the upper portion of the body, which it did not.
“I agreed to a photo shoot and having an ISI tattoo in a humorous way but I did not have any nude photos. My pictures have been morphed,” said Malik. FHM India Editor Kabeer Sharma denies her claim and says the magazine has proof of the photo shoot

With this, many parents are facing questions from kids like “What is porn, what is pornography?’. The parents are not sure what to say while the media has been choking the viewers with the terms porn and pornography. Now, the biggest concern for many is what if Sunny begins to gets a celebrity image? Given the immaturity of few people in our country, it is not a surprise that they will get inspired by Sunny to become like her. Sad but true..
