Jagan strength surprises parties

వై.ఎస్.ఆర్.కాంగ్రెస్ అధ్యక్షుడు జగన్మోహన్ రెడ్డి ఎంతమంది ఎమ్మెల్యేలను నిలబెట్టుకుంటారని కాంగ్రెస్ , టిడిపి ముఖ్యనేతలు భావించారు? పద్దెనిమిది మంది ఎమ్మెల్యేలను నిలబెట్టుకోవడంపై వారు ఎలా స్పందిస్తున్నారు? అవిశ్వాస తీర్మానంపై చర్చ రసపట్టుకు చేరుకున్నప్పుడు ఒక దశలో శాసనసభ ప్రాంగణంలో తెలుగుదేశం, కాంగ్రెస్ ముఖ్యనేతలు జగన్ కు మద్దతు ఇస్తున్నవారి సంఖ్య సింగిల్ డిజిట్ కుపడిపోయిందని భావించారు. తెలుగుదేశం ముఖ్యనేత ఒకరైతే జగన్ బలం ఐదారుకన్నా ఉండదని తనకు సమాచారం వచ్చిందని అన్నారట. అది కూడా వైఎస్ విజయమ్మతోపాటు, బాలినేని శ్రీనివాసరెడ్డి, మేకపాటి చంద్రశేఖరరెడ్డి, కడప జిల్లాకు చెందిన ఒకరిద్దరు మాత్రమే మిగులుతారని వారు భావించారు. కాంగ్రెస్ ముఖ్యనేతలు సైతం ఇదే మాదిరి పదిలోపే ఉంటుందని అనుకున్నారు.అయితే రాజ్యసభ సభ్యుడు కెవిపి రామచంద్రరావు మాత్రం జగన్ కు మద్దతు ఇచ్చేవారి సంఖ్య పదిహేడు వరకు ఉండవచ్చని లెక్కగట్టారు. అయినప్పట్టికీ చివరివరకు అంతమంది ఉండకపోవచ్చని కాంగ్రెస్ నేతలు అనుకున్నారు. కాని విజయమ్మతో సహా పందొమ్మిది మంది ఎమ్మెల్యేలు జగన్ కు మద్దతు ఇచ్చారని తేలడంతో ఒక్కసారే ఆశ్చర్యపోయారట. తమకైతే ఒక్కసారే ఉలిక్కి పడినట్లయిందని తెలుగుదేశం నాయకుడు ఒకరు వ్యాఖ్యానించారు. డెబ్బైమంది ఎమ్మెల్యేలు ఉంటారని జగన్ గతంలో చెప్పిన పాయింటు ఆధారంగా తాము విమర్శలు చేసినా, పద్దెనిమిది మంది ఎమ్మెల్యేలు జగన్ కు మద్దతు ఇవ్వడం కచ్చితంగా తమను ఆలోచింపచేసేదే అయిందని ఆయన అన్నారు. అలా గే కాంగ్రెస్ నేతలు సైతం ఈ పరిణామానికి ఉలిక్కిపడ్డారు.అందువల్లనే ఇప్పుడు వారిపై అనర్హత వేటు వేయడానికి వెనుకా,ముందు అయ్యే పరిస్థితి వచ్చిందని వ్యాఖ్యానిస్తున్నారు. ధైర్యంగా కాంగ్రెస్ నేతలు తాము విప్ ఉల్లంఘించినవారిపై అనర్హత వేటు వేయబోతున్నామని ధైర్యంగా చెప్పలేకపోతున్నారని చెబుతున్నారు. ఉప ఎన్నికలు వస్తే ఎదురయ్యే ఇబ్బందులను దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకునే వారు ఇలా వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారని భావిస్తున్నారు.

అవిశ్వాసంతో బయటపడ్డ పార్టీల బలాబలాలు

కిరణ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డి ప్రభుత్వంపై వచ్చిన అవిశ్వాస తీర్మానం వీగిపోయిన తీరు ప్రభుత్వానికి బలాన్ని ఇచ్చిందా? ప్రభుత్వ బలహీనత బయటపడిందా?తెలుగుదేశం పార్టీ రాజకీయంగా ముందడుగు వేసిందా?లేక ఆ పార్టీకి ప్రత్యేకమైన లాభం రాలేదా? వై.ఎస్.ఆర్.కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ గతంలో చెప్పిన మాటలకు ,ఆ పార్టీకి లభించిన మద్దతుకు పొంతన లేకపోవడం నష్టం తెచ్చిందా?మొత్తం రాష్ట్రంలో రాజకీయ పరిస్థితులలోఏర్పడిన గజిబిజిలో స్పష్టత వచ్చిందా అన్నది పరిశీలించడం ఆసక్తికరమైన అంశంగా ఉంటుంది. ముందుగా ముఖ్యమంత్రి కిరణ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డికి అవిశ్వాస తీర్మానం లో స్వల్ప ఆధిక్యత తోనైనా గట్టెక్కడం ఆయనకు ఊపిరి పీల్చుకున్నట్లయింది.కచ్చితంగా కిరణ్ కూడా జగన్ వర్గం ఎమ్మెల్యేలను ఆకర్షించడంలో తనదైన శైలిలో కృషి చేశారు.కొందరు ముఖ్యమైన జగన్ మద్దతుదారులు అనపర్తి ఎమ్మెల్యే శేషారెడ్డి, కాకినాడ సిటి ఎమ్మెల్యే ద్వారం పూడి చంద్రశేఖరరెడ్డి వంటివారినే కాకుండా కడప జిల్లాకే చెందిన జమ్మలమడుగు ఎమ్మెల్యే ఆదినారాయణరెడ్డిని కిరణ్ ఆకర్షించడం ద్వారా జగన్ పై కిరణ్ తన ఆధిక్యతను ప్రదర్శించుకోగలిగారు. ఒకప్పుడు కాంగ్రెస్ నుంచి నలభై నుంచి ఏభై వరకు కచ్చితంగా ఎమ్మెల్యేలు వెళ్లిపోతారనుకున్న పరిస్థితి నుంచి ఇరవైలోపునకే తగ్గించడంలో కిరణ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డి సఫలం అయ్యారనే అనుకోవాలి. కాని అదే సమయంలో అధికారాన్ని వదలిపెట్టుకుని కూడా ఒక వ్యక్తి వెనుక ఇంతమంది ఎమ్మెల్యేలు ఉండడం అంటే అది కూడా కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ బలహీనతగానే పరిగణించాలి. అందుకు ముఖ్యమంత్రి కిరణ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డి ఎంతవరకు బాధ్యుడన్న ప్రశ్న రావచ్చు. పిసిసి అధ్యక్షుడు బొత్స ఎంతవరకు కారకుడన్న ప్రశ్న ఉత్పన్నం కావచ్చు.అది వేరే విషయం.సాధారణంగా అధికారాన్ని వదలి వెళ్లడానికి ఈరోజులలో ఇష్టపడరు.అలాంటిది ఏకంగా పదహారు మంది కాంగ్రెస్ ఎమ్మెల్యేలు, ఒక ప్రజారాజ్యం ఎమ్మెల్యే కాంగ్రెస్ ను కాదని జగన్ పార్టీకి మద్దతుగా నిలబడడాన్ని తక్కువగా కాంగ్రెస్ పార్టీ అంచనా వేయజాలదు. ఒక దశలో కేవలం ఐదారుగురు ఎమ్మెల్యేలే ఉంటారని కాంగ్రెస్ వ్యూహకర్తలు అంచనావేశారు.తుది ఫలితం వచ్చేసరికి అది తప్పని తేలింది.అయితే ఇప్పుడు అవిశ్వాస తీర్మానం విప్ ను ఉల్లంఘించిన వారిపై వేటు వేయాలా? వద్దా అన్న సంశయం కాంగ్రెస్ లో నెలకొంది. అంటే దీనిని కచ్చితంగా కాంగ్రెస్ బలహీనతగానే తీసుకోవాలి.మామూలుగా అయితే ఈసరికి అనర్హత వేటు వేయడానికి స్పీకర్ కు ఫిర్యాదు పత్రాన్ని సిద్దం చేయాలి. కాని అలా చేయలేకపోవడం కాంగ్రెస్ నిస్సహాయ పరిస్థితిగానే భావించాలి. ప్రజారాజ్యం, ఎమ్.ఐ.ఎమ్. మద్దతు లేకపోతే కాంగ్రెస్ ప్రభుత్వం గట్టెక్కడం కష్టం అయ్యేదన్నది సందేహాలకు అతీతంగా రుజువు అయింది.ఇప్పుడు కిరణ్ ప్రభుత్వాన్ని నిలబెట్టిన ఘనత తనదేనని ప్రజారాజ్యం మాజీ అధినేత , మెగాస్టార్ చిరంజీవి క్లెయిమ్ చేస్తారు.దానికి కాంగ్రెస్ కూడా అంగీకరించకతప్పదు. కాంగ్రెస్ అధిష్టానంలో చిరంజీవికి కాస్త వెయిట్ పెరుగుతుంది. కిరణ్, బొత్సల కన్నా, ఇప్పుడు చిరంజీవికి అధిష్టానం ఎక్కువ ప్రాధాన్యం ఇవ్వవచ్చు.ఏతావాతా కిరణ్ ప్రభుత్వం నిలబడడం ఆయనకు మేలు కలిగించిన అంశం అయితే, చిరంజీవికి డిమాండ్ పెరగడం ముఖ్యమైన అంశంగా తీసుకోవాలి. ఇదే సమయంలో కిరణ్ ప్రభుత్వం సుస్థిరంగా రాజకీయ సంక్షోభాలేవి లేకుండా నడుస్తుందా అన్న ప్రశ్నలు తలెత్తుతాయి.అది కిరణ్ వ్యవహార శైలిపై ఆధారపడి ఉంటుంది. ఇందులో కొన్ని కష్టాలు ఇబ్బందులు తప్పవు. ఎమ్మెల్యేల డిమాండ్లను , కోర్కెల చిట్టాను నెరవేర్చవలసిన బాధ్యత కిరణ్ పై పడుతుంది. ఈ క్రమంలో కొన్ని తప్పులు జరగవచ్చు. ఒకవైపు ఎమ్మెల్యేలను కాపాడుకుంటూ, మరో వైపు ప్రజాక్షేత్రంలో అప్రతిష్టపాలు కాకుండా చూసుకోవలసిన బాధ్యత కిరణ్ పై పడుతుంది. ఇక మంత్రి వర్గ విస్తరణకు కాస్త అనుకూల వాతావరణం ఏర్పడినా, కిరణ్ పై విపరీతమైన ఒత్తిడి పెరుగుతుంది.దానిని తట్టుకుని , తనకు ఇష్టం లేని కొందరు మంత్రులను తొలగించి , ఇష్టైమైన వారిని వేసుకోవడానికి అధిష్టానం అనుమతించాల్సి ఉంటుంది.ఇవన్ని కూడా కిరణ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డికి భవిష్యత్తులో
ఎదురయ్యే సవాళ్లనే చెప్పాలి.అనర్హత వేటు విషయంలో ముందుకు వెళితే వాటన్నిటికి ఉప ఎన్నికలు వస్తాయి. అది కిరణ్ కు ప్రధాన పరీక్ష అవుతుంది. అనర్హత వేటు వేయకపోయినా, వేసినా, రెండు కూడా కిరణ్ కు పరీక్షలే అవుతాయని చెప్పాలి. అయితే వీటిని అధిగమించి, కిరణ్ కుమార్ రెడ్డి కనుక ఉప ఎన్నికలలోమెజార్టీ స్థానాలు తెచ్చుకోగలిగితే ఆయనకు తిరుగు ఉండదు. అలాకాకపోతే మాత్రం రాజకీయంగా కష్టాలు ఎదుర్కోవలసి ఉంటుంది.మొత్తం మీద కిరణ్ ప్రభుత్వం బలం ఏమిటో, బలహీనత ఏమిటో ఈ అవిశ్వాస పరీక్ష స్పష్టంగా బయటపెట్టిందని చెప్పవచ్చు.
ఇక తెలుగుదేశం అధినేత చంద్రబాబు నాయుడు అవిశ్వాస పరీక్ష ఒక రకంగా తనపై రాజకీయంగా వచ్చిన అభియోగాలను క్లియర్ చేసుకవడానికి ఉపయోగపడిందని చెప్పాలి. అయితే ఆరు నెలల క్రితం సభలో అవిశ్వాస పరీక్ష వచ్చేలా చేయకుండా,తర్వాత పరిస్థితులు మారాక సిద్దం అయ్యారని విమర్శలు వచ్చినా, ఏ రాజకీయపార్టీ అయినా తనసొంత ప్రయోజనాలకు అనుగుణంగా వ్యవహరిస్తుంది కాని, వేరేపార్టీలు చెప్పినట్లు చేయదు కదా.అంతవరకు చంద్రబాబు ఇబ్బంది పడలేదు. అయితే ఒక వేళ నిజంగానే విప్ ఉల్లంఘించిన కాంగ్రెస్ ఎమ్మెల్యేలను అనర్హులను చేస్తే అప్పుడు టిడిపికి కూడా పరీక్ష అవుతుంది. ప్రధానంగా ఇటీవలి సర్వేలలో టిడిపి పరిస్థితి కూడా అంత సజావుగా లేదన్న సమాచారం వస్తున్న నేపధ్యంలో వీరికి కూడా సహజంగానే ఆందోళన కలుగుతుంది.ప్రత్యేకించి తెలంగాణలో ఇంకా టిడిపి కోలుకుందని చెప్పేపరిస్థితి కనబడడం లేదు. కాంగ్రెస్ కు తామే ప్రదాన పోటీ అన్న నమ్మకాన్ని కలిగించగలిగితేనే టిడిపికి ఉపయోగం ఉంటుంది.అయితే చంద్రబాబుకుగాని, టిడిపికి గాని అవిశ్వాస పరీక్ష వ్యవహారం కన్నా సిబిఐ విచారణే ముఖ్యమైన అంశంగా గమనించాలి.దాని నుంచి క్షేమంగా బయటపడితే అప్పుడు టిడిపి బాగా పుంజుకోలుగుతుంది.
వై.ఎస్.ఆర్.కాంగ్రెస్ అధ్యక్షుడు జగన్మోహన్ రెడ్డికాని, ఆయన పార్టీ నేతలు నిజానికి ఈ అవిశ్వాస తీర్మానం ఓటింగులో తమ బలాన్ని చాటుకోవడంలో విఫలమైనట్లే లెక్క. అత్యంత సన్నిహితులను కూడా కోల్పోవడం కొంత వరకు నష్టమైనని చెప్పాలి.యాజమాన్య నిర్వహణ సరిగా లేదన్న వ్యాఖ్యలు ఆ పార్టీ నేతల నుంచే వస్తున్నాయి.జగన్ ఓదార్పు యాత్రలోనే ఎక్కువగా కొనసాగడం, ఎమ్మెల్యేలతో నిరంతరం టచ్ లో లేకపోవడం వంటి లోపాలను ఆ పార్టీ నేతలు ప్రస్తావిస్తున్నారు. చివరి నిమిషంలో జగన్ రంగంలో దిగి తన బలాన్ని పందొమ్మిదిగా చూపించుకోవడం ద్వారా అవిశ్వాస తీర్మానం ఓడిపోయినా, జగన్ కు ఇప్పటికీ ఇంత బలం ఉందా అన్న అభిప్రాయం రావడంతో ఆయన పరిస్థితి మరీ దెబ్బతినలేదని చెప్పాలి. ఆయనపార్టీ నాయకులు కిందపడ్డా తమదే పైచేయి అనడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నారు.జగన్ కూడా దమ్ముంటే ఈ పదిహేడు నియోజకవర్గాలకు ఒకేసారి ఎన్నికలు పెట్టాలని సవాలు విసరడం ద్వారా జనానికి తనపై విశ్వాసం కోల్పోకుండా జాగ్రత్తపడుతున్నారని అనుకోవాలి.అయితే ఏమాటకామాట ఒప్పుకోవాలి. ఎవరైనా ఎమ్మెల్యేలను ఆయన కట్టడి చేయకుండా అవిశ్వాసానికి ఓటు వేసేవారే తన మనుషులని ధైర్యంగా చెప్పిన తీరును మాత్రం మెచ్చుకోవాలి.కాని అదే సమయంలో తొలి నుంచి ఉన్న సుమారు నలభై మంది ఎమ్మెల్యేలను నిలబెట్టుకోవడంలో సఫలం కాకపోవడం కారణం ఏదైనా ఆయన బలహీనతగా పరిగణించాలి.అనకాపల్లి ఎమ్.పి సబ్బం హరి ఎప్పుడూ అవిశ్వాసం పెడితే సత్తా చూపుతామని, ప్రభుత్వం పడిపోతుందని చెబుతూ వచ్చేవారు. అలాంటివారికి ఈ పరిణామం కాస్త ఇబ్బందికరమే. అయినప్పట్టికీ ఇక ప్రజాక్షేత్రంలోనే తేల్చుకుంటానికి జగన్ సిద్దం అవడం కూడా మంచిదే.ఉప ఎన్నికలు జరిగి తన పక్షానికి అత్యధిక సీట్లు వస్తే ఇక భవిష్యత్తులో జగన్ రాష్ట్ర రాజకీయాలను శాసించబోతున్నట్లే లెక్క. అలా కాకుండా తక్కువ సీట్లకే పరిమితమైతే అప్పుడు జగన్ భవిష్యత్తు డోలాయమానంలో పడుతుంది. ఇక టిఆర్ఎస్ పార్టీ కి ఈ అవిశ్వాసం పెద్దగా లాభం కాని, నష్టం కాని తేలేదు. కాకపోతే తెలంగాణకు చెందిన ఇతర పార్టీ ల నేతలను అవిశ్వాసానికి అనుకూలంగా చేయడంలో సఫలం కాలేకపోయారు.అయితే ఉప ఎన్నికలు వస్తే తమ సత్తాను తెలంగాణలో చాటాలని ఆ పార్టీ ఉవ్విళ్లూరుతోంది. అయితే అసలు ఉప ఎన్నికలు వస్తాయో , రాని తెలియని పరిస్థితి నెలకొంది.ఏది ఏమైనా అన్ని ప్రధాన రాజకీయ పార్టీల బలాబలాలను అవిశ్వాస తీర్మానం బహిర్గతం చేసిందని చెప్పుకోవాలి.                            

Naidu's no-confidence strenghtens Jagan

The no-confidence motion moved by the Telugu Desam Party against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in the state has been defeated as expected, without giving scope for any miracles.
But one wonders what the TDP has achieved by moving the motion.
On Monday morning itself, the TDP leaders were found commenting during the television debates that there was way the no-confidence motion would win because the ruling party obviously had the majority in the House.
“The chances of no-confidence motion winning are more only if the difference between the number of ruling party MLAs and that of the opposition is very thin; or if a big group of the ruling party breaks away to form another splinter group,” observed former TDP minister Kodela Sivaprasada Rao.
Then why did the TDP go ahead with the no-confidence motion and what did it achieve? The answer is nothing. If wants to test the strength of the Jagan group MLAs, then one wonders how does it benefit Naidu?
On the other hand, if they are disqualified and by-elections are held, there is no way the TDP will benefit out of it because it has little chances of winning those seats. Even if the Kiran Kumar Reddy government lost the trust vote resulting in mid-term elections, it would not have helped the TDP at all, as the party absolutely no chances in the Telangana region.
So, Naidu only messed up the state political scenario. In a way, he has helped YSR Contgress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to strengthen further.

Idiotic Telugu Electronic Media

The true essence of journalism has always been to bring the truth to the common man. With media coming in, many expected things to be more transparent. However, the arrival of the electronic media has exploited the very purpose of journalism and has redefined it into a proper commercial venture which revolves around making money and keeping the stakeholders happy. The reason for this discussion is due to the latest incidents and the irresponsible stand of the media folks.

The recent engagement ceremony of Ramcharan Tej with Upasana Kamineni was a star studded affair. As expected, the electronic media were thronging the place. Now, this was meant to be an exclusive coverage of the event. And exclusively means only for one channel but ironically, half a dozen channels were busy streaming the event and they called it exclusive. That is wrong. This goes to show that either they don’t know what the meaning of exclusive is or they simply don’t care.

Similarly, the no-confidence motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government by the opposition was being covered by the news channels in full swing last night. However, much to the surprise and shock of the viewers, each channel was seen coming up with their own numbers on how many are supporting the no-confidence and how many are not. Toggling between the channels showed the variation in numbers rather significantly.

While the examples are many, the bottomline looks clear. There is no responsibility for the media channels. For them, true or false don’t matter. What matters is viewers should not leave their channel at any cost and the TRP ratings must be maintained. Atleast, when some news is published in websites, it gives an option for people to decide and validate or report if something is incorrect. Amendments are made promptly but in electronic media, nothing works.

Maybe the event of Charan-Upasana engagement can be considered as not important but there are some serious issues the state is grappling with right now. If the news channels keep working as per their whims and behave irresponsibly by treating media as a business then the consequences would be severe for the society.

Kiran survives, Jagan proves point

The opposition sponsored no-confidence motion against the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh was defeated by a huge margin in the state assembly late Monday night.
After over a 16-hour-long debate on the motion moved by Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the house voted on the motion after 1 a.m. While 122 members supported the motion, 160 opposed it and there was one neutral. Five members were absent during the voting.
Though 16 Congress legislators loyal to YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy violated the whip to vote in favour of the motion, it was not enough to defeat the government.
The ruling party has 153 members in 295-member house. The magic figure required to defeat the motion was 143 as there are seven vacancies in the house.
In addition to ruling party's 136 members, 17 out of 18 legislators of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) and all seven members of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) opposed the motion.
All 85 members of TDP, 12 of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), four of CPI, two of BJP, one each of CPI-M, YSR Congress party and independent voted for the motion.
Though YSR Congress party's honorary president Vijayamma had reached the assembly in the morning with 18 Congress rebels, the number dwindled to 16 by the time of the voting. Suspense over the actual strength of Jagan group continued till the last minute as Congress leaders made all out efforts to win back rebels.
Announcing the defeat of the motion, Speaker N. Manohar adjourned the house sine die.
On the last day of the five-day winter session, the house debated the motion for over 16 hours. The debate was marred by not just heated exchanges between treasury and opposition benches but also by the allegations and counter allegations among the parties supporting the motion.
If the final result at the no-confidence vote was to be taken into account, the Congress has only 137 members whereas the combined Opposition strength was 122.
“If one were to take out the combined strength of PRP and MIM (24 MLAs) and add it to the Opposition tally, it would almost reach the magical 150-mark which is sufficient to unseat the Kiran government. It was a close shave for the CM. Despite his bravado, the CM must be feeling the jitters,” a senior analyst pointed out.

We won't be sacked:Jagan MLAs' confident

The Congress MLAs owing allegiance to YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy till now seem to be confident that they would not be disqualified from the Congress party even if they vote against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in the no-confidence motion.
According to the indications available so far, at least a dozen MLAs would vote for the no-confidence motion moved by Telugu Desam Party in the assembly.
They are of the view that the Congress would not dare to issue a disqualification notice against them because it would result in dwindling of its numbers in the assembly and would make its position precarious. In the event of they being disqualified, there is every possibility that the YSR Congress would back all the seats and thus, the Congress strength would come down by their number.
“Hence, even if they vote against the government, the Congress party would bear it with humiliation and would not seek their disqualification because technically, they still remain the Congress MLAs,” a political observer said.
To avoid such an embarrassing situation, the Speaker might even conduct a voice vote on the no-confidence motion and say that the no-trust motion was lost. That would help the Congress to claim that all the pro-Jagan MLAs had voted for the government. It would save the face of both the Congress as well as Jaganmohan Reddy. In a way, it will also be a blessing in disguise for the TDP, since it might not be willing to contest the by-elections in the disqualified pro-Jagan MLAs’ constituencies.

Vijayamma makes impressive maiden speech

YSR’s wife and YSR Congress Party’s sole MLA in the Assembly Vijayamma made her maiden speech in the Assembly during the debate on no-confidence motion and she made an emotional impact. Her speech was halting most of the time, but she overcame the initial hesitation a couple of minutes through the speech.
Her 16-mintue speech contained all important points she wanted to make. She reminisced fondly about her husband, pointed out the irony of the situation when she had to speak in an Assembly without YSR’s presence. She pointed out how both Congress and TDP made critical references to her late husband.
Reminding that the present government owed its existence to YSR’s hardwork, she said it was a quirk of fate that she had to vote against the same government. She also talked about how YSR worked all through his life for Congress Party and single-handedly brought it into power in the state.
She also took potshots on TDP and Chandrababu Naidu, sarcastically saying that she failed to understand whether the no-confidence was against YSR or for farmers.
Most importantly, she declared that her party as well as those who continued to be loyal towards YSR would vote for the no-confidence, whatever the motives of TDP were. She congratulated the MLAs loyal to YSR who were going to vote against Congress, even though they were aware that they might face disqualification.
She also felt that had TDP moved the confidence resolution six months earlier when Chiranjeevi had not merged his PRP with Congress, the government would have fallen.
On the whole, Vijayamma’s speech made an impact on the House, which listened to her raptly. Probably worried over the message her speech would send to the people at large, PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayna was on his feet to clarify that Jagan deserted Congress on his own. Jagan wanted dynastic rule in the state and claimed CM’s seat as a matter of hereditary right, which was not possible in Congress, he said.
Botsa also pointed out, rather cryptically, that it was Kiran Kumar Reddy who defended Jagan when TDP charged YSR’s son with the murder of Paritala Ravi.
Vijayamma again rose to clarify that Jagan had to come out of Congress because the party did not give permission for his ‘Odarpu Yatra’. It was only towards the end of her speech that Jagan loyalists like Balineni rushed to her help.

MLAs got richer overnight

The no-confidence motion introduced by the Telugu Desam Party in the state assembly has turned out to be an excellent opportunity to many MLAs from various parties to reap rich benefits.
It was a sort of windfall for the Praja Rajyam Party MLAs, as the Congress high command has assured them to take care of all their interests besides reportedly handing over “suitcases” to them.
On the other hand, several Congress MLAs in the camp of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, too, have been lured back into the Congress with monetary and other benefits.
The Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (MIM) also rightly used the opportunity to blackmail the Congress party and got the Hyderabad Mayor seat for the next three years, instead of just two years, as a sort of gift for saving the Kiran government.
At the same time, the Congress party has also managed to silence its rebels like Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and P Shankar Rao to vote for the Kiran government, though they are bitter critics of him.
It is yet to be known what “settlement” they had reached to vote for the Chief Minister. The Congress leaders are also allegedly “managed” Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA Ch Ramesh to stay back in Germany in the name of flight problems.
Unfortunately, only the TDP legislators could not get anything in the bargain. “We are moving the no-trust motion and you are getting the benefits,” a TDP legislator commented with a rebel Congress MLA in the assembly.

Will Jagan serve a surprise punch?

The ruling Congress seems to be confident of getting through the no-confidence motion today without much of a hitch. Despite all the jockeying by various parties, the numbers still seem to favour Kiran Kumar Reddy government.

The ruling combine commands 162 MLAs on its side, while the opposition could muster only 124 MLAs as of now. The PRP threat passed off as a storm in a cup and the less than convincing attempt of TRS to provoke T Congress MLAs to vote against the government failed miserably.
The MIM, after the understanding reached over Hyderabad Mayor post, is all set to support the government.
Jagan is still making last ditch efforts to throw a surprise by continually talking to his group MLAs, many of whom have already declared their vote to the Congress Party. His reported attempts at luring some T Congress MLAs yielded little result.
While Kiran’s government is under no threat of losing on the floor, the no-confidence is still generating lot of interest because of any unexpected developments in the Jagan camp. Even if a few Jagan MLAs vote for the motion, it would indeed trigger important political developments in the state, as by-polls would be necessitated, and Jagan’s YSR Congress will have an opportunity to prove its mettle in the electoral arena.
It is also to be seen who Lok Satta Jayaprakash Narayan, Associate Member Somarapu Satyanarayana (issued a Congress whip and Sobha Nagireddy (earlier PRP and now a Jagan loyalist) will vote for.

MIM blackmailing fruitful

Till the other day, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation mayor Banda Karthika Reddy was reluctant to step down from her post and was firm on continuing in the post for at least another one year.
Even Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana was bargaining with the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen that the Congress wants to retain the Mayor post for another one year, after which it would be handed over to the MIM.
However, all of a sudden, Karthika agreed to resign from the post and Botsa declared that it would be given to the MIM.
One wonders what exactly happened in the last two days.
The answer was simple: the MIM is believed to have taken full advantage of the no-confidence motion introduced by the Telugu Desam Party in the assembly to pull down the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.
The Congress was alert to the reports that MIM president Asaduddin was a good friend of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and if the Congress take a rigid stand on the Mayor post, he might ask the MIM MLAs to join hands with the Jagan party and vote against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government during the no-confidence motion voting.
Since the Kiran government is just counting the numbers to survive and every MLA is very important for it, the Congress party had no option but to succumb to the MIM pressures and give up the Mayor post.
After all, the Chief Minister position is more important than the Mayor post!

Congress, TDP, TRS whip MLAs

The ruling Congress and the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Sunday issued whips to their legislators on the opposition's no-confidence motion in the assembly.
While Congress directed all its 153 members in the 295-member house to vote against the TDP's no-confidence motion, the main opposition party asked its 86 legislators to back the motion when it comes up for voting Monday. TRS also asked all its 12 MLAs to be present in the house and vote for the motion.
Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) has not yet issued a whip to its lawmakers, keeping the Congress on its toes amid continuing uncertainty over the fate of the no-confidence motion.
PRP chief K. Chiranjeevi Sunday met 17 legislators of his party, who openly voiced unhappiness over being sidelined by the Congress even after the merger.
Since PRP remains a separate block in the assembly pending disposal of a petition in court by a PRP legislator challenging the merger, Chiranjeevi will have to issue a whip to ensure that all the legislators vote against the motion.
Unhappy over the delay in accommodating them in the state cabinet and other posts, the PRP MLAs are mounting pressure for their pound of flesh to bail-out the government.
Chiranjeevi briefed the MLAs about the assurance given by central Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad to him last night. However, the meeting could not take a decision on issuing a whip as some leaders wanted that they be allowed to vote according to their conscience.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy is holding a crucial meeting with Congress legislators loyal to him to take a final decision on his strategy. Twenty-one legislators, who met him Saturday, said they were ready to vote against the government and face by-elections if they were disqualified for violating party whip.
Two other loyalists opposed Jagan's decision to vote against the government and walked out of Saturday's meeting.
As many as 26 Congress rebels had switched loyalties to Jagan in August but some of them have since returned to the party fold.
Congress leaders including ministers met some of Jagan loyalists and handed them the party whip.
The ruling party is confident of defeating the motion with the support of PRP and its ally Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), which has seven members.
PRP has 18 members in assembly but one of them Shoba Nagi Reddy is sailing with Jagan.
As there are seven vacancies in 295-member house (including a nominated member), Congress needs 144 votes to defeat the motion. The ruling party is sure of garnering 157 votes even if 21 rebels vote against it.
The parties which are in support of motion include CPI (4), BJP (2), CPI-M, Lok Satta and YSR Congress one each and one independent.

T-Congress MLAs in dilemma

More than anybody else, the no-confidence motion has put the Telangana Congress legislators in a piquant situation. There is a fear among a section of them that they could be branded as enemies of Telangana if they do not support the no-trust motion.
The reason is that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi has been projecting the no-confidence motion as a means to protest against the delay in creation of separate Telangana state. It has been making public statements that any vote in favour of the Congress government would be seen by the people of Telangana as a vote against the statehood cause.
“The pro-government voting will be viewed as supporting the betrayal of the statehood cause,” the TRS sources said. This has put the T-Congress MLAs in a fix. They can neither jettison the statehood cause nor can they afford to defy the party whipe and face disqualification from the Assembly.
The TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has already gone on record, appealing to all MLAs from the Telangana region, irrespective of their party affiliation, to vote in favour of the No- Confidence Motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government which is responsible for the delay in creation of separate state.
“The Chief Minister has been using coercive methods to suppress the Telangana agitation and therefore, he must not be allowed to continue in power,” KCR said.

Its Jagan behind PRP MLAs revolt!!

The sudden heat generated in megastar-politician Chiranjeevi camp on the day the Opposition parties were gearing up for no-confidence motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government has raised many eyebrows in the political circles.
Though it is initially believed that Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana had instigated the yet-to-be wound up Praja Rajyam Party MLAs to pull down the Kiran government, reliable sources tell a different story.
Many of the MLAs in the Chiranjeevi camp were in touch with YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and had given them promise to pull down the Kiran government at the right time. They are not happy with the way the Chief Minister was ignoring them and the Congress party leaders in their respective constituencies ill-treating them.
However, Chiranjeevi, a political novice that he is, was of the view that all his MLAs would listen to his words. So, when he had a meeting of the MLAs at his chambers in the assembly, they all pulled him up for not taking up their cause with the Congress high command.
“You have ensured your own political future; you may get the union cabinet berth sooner or later. But, what about us? We have not got even corporation chairperson posts, leave alone cabinet berths in the state. We don’t even know whether we get the Congress tickets in the next elections and even if some us will get, we don’t know whether we will get support of the local Congress leaders. Instead, it is better to go the Jaganmohan Reddy camp. At least there, we will get some recognition and he would ensure our victory,” the MLAs are learnt to have told Chiranjeevi.
The megastar was taken aback with the revolt and it was only after that he had leaked to the media about the disgruntlement among his group MLAs. And Botsa had to personally intervene and pacify him.
Later in the evening, AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad spoke to him and asked him to pacify his group MLAs. He assured to take care of the interests of the PRP legislators.

High drama in Andhra politics

The last 24 hours have witnessed a rapid change in the political equations in the state.
At a time when Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was confident that majority of the party MLAs hitherto supporting YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy are back in the Congress party and would support his government in the no-confidence motion, they gave him a rude shock by attending Jagan’s meeting and declaring that they would support the no-confidence motion.
And when he thought the MLAs from Praja Rajyam Party would also support his government, they, too, gave the Chief Minister a rude shock by expressing their resentment against him for ignoring them all these days and virtually blackmailing him that his survival depends on their support.
And the Telugu Desam Party which was struggling to keep its flock together received a pleasant surprise. Three rebel MLAs – K Hareeshwar Reddy, S Venugopala Chary and Y Balanagi Reddy, who were suspended from the party for revolting against party president N Chandrababu Naidu, expressed their willingness to come back into the party. And Naidu, who discussed it with his senior party leaders, gave them a green signal.
The only TDP rebel left out now is Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who not only lost his MLA seat, but also became a loner; as two others Jogu Ramanna and Gampa Goverdhan joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi got their political future secure. It remains to be seen whether Nagam also will come back to the TDP or not.
